A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
