Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
