Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
