The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
