The star has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the MVT, which functions to save the Britain's independent music venues.

Fender was presented with the prize on 16 October as his third album the album was declared the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in improving infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces helps the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

Recently, the trust shared it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.
