The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
