The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a group of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The single blends a mix of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from later in the month.
