UK Ready to Utilize Seized Russia's Funds to Fund Ukraine's Military Campaign
The UK is ready to advance with using the entire amount of frozen Russian holdings to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a joint statement, the officials of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to participate in talks.
They added that the initiative would be implemented in strong partnership with the US.
UK restrictions have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government began its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, previously, resources sent to Ukraine using Russian holdings had only been sourced from gains and dividends generated on them.
Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their goal to push forward toward utilizing the total worth of the frozen Russian sovereign holdings to conclude the conflict.
He added that further restrictions in the coming days and weeks would apply more pressure on Russia.
This declaration comes after EU representatives met in Copenhagen recently to discuss employing immobilized Russian assets for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.
In the previous month, American leader Donald Trump called on G7 allies to confiscate or otherwise use immobilized Russia's holdings, based on news outlets.
The worth of seized Russian funds in the EU is estimated to be approximately €211bn.
Leader Zelensky calls on the United Kingdom's Sir Keir Starmer to join the weapons procurement initiative
The Russian government launched extensive bombardments throughout Ukraine on Friday, causing electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and several other zones.
Several persons were fatally injured and a minimum of 20 people were wounded in the assault, the Ukrainian government stated.
In a update on social media subsequent to the attack, Zelensky commented that the premeditated assault aimed at non-military and power facilities.
"What is required is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the America, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in providing defense mechanisms and implementing sanctions," he wrote.
"Every sanction decision diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky declared, in a different message.
In the same period, Zelensky told the press he would encourage Sir Keir to participate in the PURL programme, under which Nato countries buy weapons from the America to donate to the Ukrainian forces.
While applauding the Britain's firm backing for Kyiv, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the initiative, as well as enforce further sanctions on Moscow.
